Wado Ryu Karate

  • Wado Ryu Karate means: method of unarmed fighting that is in search of peace and harmony. A style of karate that characterises itself by a strong defensive attitude and many avoiding movements, actions and responses.
  • The essence of this style of karate is to take care never to get wounded and at the same time not to wound others in any aggressive confrontation.
  • This will develop a peaceful type of selfconfidence in Wado Ryu stylists that will surprise their opponents. Much too late attackers of Wado Ryu stylists will find out their brutal attack only affects air. No harm will be done to anyone.
  • Adrie practised Wado Ryu under two-times World Champion Ludwig Kotzebue, Dutch Champion Jack van Hellemond and trained with GertJan Martens.

Dutch Correctional Institutions Officer

  • Besides his experience in Wado Ryu Karate both as an international wellknown competitor and as a teacher, coach and trainer, Adrie de Herdt has almost twenty years of field-action as a Correctional Institutions Officer in the Dutch Prison Service.
  • Adrie has built an enormous professionalism over all these years. Succeeding several times for the obligatory exams Selfdefense and Practical Prison Actions. Cum Laude.
  • This adds pieces of field-action experience and practical knowledge to SPZ courses, coaching and consultancy which costumers will not find easily at other traininginstitutes.
  • Out of these broad experiences the SPZ composes it's courses, coaching ad consultancy.

Other Martial Arts and Selfdefense

  • Besides Wado Ryu Adrie also practised Shotokan Karate under the in Holland famous but late sensei Boy Schreuders. He trained Kyokushinkaikan with karatelegend John Reeberg. Trained Taekwondo with Harry Preis, did boxing at ABCC with Joop de Vries, thaiboxing with Rob Floris and fencing with maitre Ad van de Weg.
  • Adrie always returned to Wado Ryu Karate as a base from which he explored other systems. Giving all newly acquired knowledge it's own spot in Adrie's Wado Ryu Karate.
  • At the end of the 1980's and early 1990's Adrie also trained with some British Troops at the Bergen Hohne Barracks in Germany. Finding out how to put endurance and strength into a full hundred percent fighting action.
  • All typically combined into his SPZ-training.
